Foo Fighters booked for 2011's T in the Park

It has been confirmed that Foo Fighters will play next year's T in the Park.

Organisers of the 2011 festival has announced the band are the first act.

Geoff Ellis, the brains behind the operation, had been particularly keen to bring the group to the event at Balado airfield near Kinross as in addition to being one of the world's largest draws, they are also one of his favourites.

"Once again we are proud to bring one of the world's biggest and most influential rock bands to Balado," he confirmed.

"As well as being a personal favourite and a band that T in the Park fans continually praise, Foo Fighters are one of the best festival headliners on the planet and I'm delighted we have them for T in the Park 2011."

Next year's T in the Park will be held from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th July, with a limited number of tickets available to fans from 09:00 GMT today (Thursday).

sell $ 11,700,000 in bonds to help

The Village of Tinley Park will sell $ 11,700,000 in bonds to help pay for three large projects - and it's not hitting the higher property taxes to help people.

Citing favorably low interest rates, the village Board Finance Committee unanimously approved a bond that pays $ 2 million for wastewater projects in the village of $ 5,200,000 new shares 80thAvenue Metra train station and towards the expansion of $ 4500000 Tinley Park Conference Centre.

Board, which met on Wednesday night, is expected to approve the bond issue in November, with bonds sold in December.

Trustee Michael Bettenhausen, chairman of the Finance Committee, said the time is right to sell the bonds, noting that lower interest rates that will leave the village annual cost of $ 801,000 to repay the debt.

"The debt-service obligations and the bond issue is not property owners," Bettenhausen said.

The village expects interest rates around 3 percent.

"When you think of borrowing $ 1 million and you only have to pay a $ 67,000 interest, this is outrageous," Bettenhausen said.

Rates are so attractive, the village is asking department chairs, are there other projects that require funding, Mayor Ed Zabrocki said.

"The timing is right," he said.

Financing the debt service for wastewater projects will be water and sewer fund, which is paid by users, Bettenhausen said. Sewer improvements will save money in the long run, the village, Trustee Greg Hannon said, because it is cheaper to replace than repair.

Major music festival T in the Park has been held annually in Scotland since 1994. A two day festival T in the Park was originally but since 2007 has taken place over three days, and introduced in 2008 was the opportunity to upgrade a weekend camping ticket to allow camping access on the Thursday the day before any musicians performed. The festival is promoted by Big Day Out. The 2009 festival took place over three days between the 10 and 12 July, with over 180 acts performing to a crowd of 85,000 people. Saturday saw the return of the Foo Fighters, who return to Scotland in dramatic style, headlining the main stage. This was also the year where a notable "riot" occurred. On Sunday night a huge line of festival goers walked through the campsite paths in a group singing songs of bands which appeared at the festival. At one point upon reaching the entrance to the festival main arena, some members of the crowd of people "invaded" the festival grounds and filled the Ceilidh Tent. There were also reports of people managing to make it up on to the Main Stage until local authorities and festival security managed to control the event. The Opera T In The Park

Just when you thought couldn't get more diverse T in the Park, festival boss Geoff Ellis is said to be in talks with Creative Scotland about bringing opera singers and ballet dancers to T in the Park 2011. According to the Sunday Herald, Ellis is keen to add a new dimension to next year’s event by signing up Scotland’s five national performing companies to take part. The National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera have been warned that they should expect budget cuts of up to 10 per cent. A slot at T in the Park could therefore provide a key platform to bring the arts to a much wider audience. Ellis said: “On music festivals the cuts might have a positive effect.“The companies might think, ‘how can we make up this shortfall, increase audience numbers, get to a wider market?’ T in the Park could be the prefect market for that.”Members of the respective companies are said to welcome the prospect of taking part in the festival that attracts over 85,000 revellers each year. Neil Murray from the NTS confirmed: "The National theatre of Scotland is keen to reach new audiences."

Drug dealer jailed at T In The Park

At T in the Park a drug dealer who was caught with nearly £5000 worth of cocaine has been jailed for three and a half years. Gary Hume was sentenced to serve 42 months in prison after a jury found him guilty of supplying the class A drug at the music festival. Sheriff Michael Fletcher said he had no option but impose a custodial sentence on Hume and said the supply of drugs at T in the Park was a commonplace scourge. He said: "The courts have said regularly that the supply of Class A drugs should be treated seriously. The value of the drugs was over £4000 in this case. Furthermore, this took place at the T in the Park festival where great difficulty is experienced in relation to drugs of this and all sorts of other kinds."Hume was caught with a large haul of cocaine just minutes after arriving at the festival site and was also discovered with sex drug Viagra during a police raid. Perth Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Hume who had two close relatives die due to drug overdoses lived with his mother and has a girlfriend who suffered from agoraphobia. Hume - who claimed a Chinese drug dealer had given him cocaine by mistake when he tried to buy other drugs was found guilty of supplying the class A drug by a jury. The court heard how police officers, acting on a tip off, targeted Hume's camper van the moment it pulled into the car park at the Balado, Kinross, site. The court heard how around 15 officers swooped on Hume and his friends and during a search of the van found five bags of cocaine, diazepam, and a Viagra tablet. Drug squad officers told the court that the 96 grams of cocaine hidden in Hume's toiletry bag was worth £3500 pounds and could be further divided to have an ultimate value of £4818. Hume told the court that he believed it was speed he was buying from a Chinese drug dealer in Glasgow for £200. He said he could not explain why the dealer accidentally gave him nearly £5000 pounds worth of cocaine instead.Hume, 29, of Wallacewell Road, Glasgow, was found guilty of supplying cocaine during last year's T in the Park on July 10. He was also found guilty of possessing diazepam.
